Afrikaners are living in a state of siege and many describe these events as if they are being 'targeted by a genocide', read here.
A perfectly legal, registered, self-defence group which has backing from the SA Police Service yesterday was singled out by this newspaper and described as 'a racist syndicate'.
One must examine what they mean by 'racism', however. Easy to do: they usually run at least one anti-Afrikaner story in their paper.
This major newspaper -- read by some 3-million black South Africans all over the greater Johannesburg region, ran THREE major anti-Afrikaner stories today:
- The one about the 'racist syndicate', read.
- This one: 'The magistrate who plays the race card' - about Lydenburg magistrate Marius Serfontein, (pictured on their front page and as the main story in their daily news-letter to subscribers). Serfontein is already being demonised and criminalised without ever having appeared in any court of law or ever having been found guilty of such offences.
- It also appears as if the Sowetan really have it in for the people of Lydenburg, because their third story also deals with their perception of 'racism' at a private school for the mentally-disabled in Lydenburg. When one reads the story however, this 'racism' mainly involves the fact that the school only teaches these Afrikaans mentally-retarded children in Afrikaans. They cite unknown sources and add that 'the Black Lawyers' Association is behind this campaign, too - just like the one against Mr Serfontein. Read here.
The Sowetan ran this story without ever publishing the other side of the story by, for instance, asking for any comment from the self-defence training unit leaders themselves -- i.e. the Kommandokorps. Neither did they bother to publish the widely-quoted comment by the SA Police that this was in fact a legal self-defence training organisation that they had never had any complaints about - which in fact often was sent trained SAPS police officers to help them with their gun-safety training.
Instead, Sowetan chooses to incite their mainly black readers with incorrect 'facts' for instance, they never explain why the Afrikaners in Pretoria feel it necessary to go on these self-defence training courses; they also never write about the slaughter of the Afrikaner breadwinners on the smallholdings and in the working-class suburbs of Pretoria. They never present the Afrikaner point of view -- when the Afrikaans newspapers always take great trouble to always 'get the other side's opinion' in order to present a balanced news report, the Sowetan's mostly black readership thus is being misled into believing that Afrikaners who dare to defend themselves from the feral youth gangs attacking their families, are all just simply 'racists'.
Why are they racists? Because they dare to teach their children self-defence? Are they racists when they insist on their constitutional language rights for these severely mentally-retarded Afrikaans children at this school, who have difficulty learning any other language because of their handicap? Sowetan really has reached the depths of journalism - and this is deeply disappointing to me. I used to have a high regard for them, alas no more.
Who is 'playing the race card' now?
